Real Madrid defender Roberto Carlos is soon to obtain Spanish citizenship.
This means that the Brazilian will no longer take up one of the club’s valuable non-EU places, meaning they can dip into the transfer market in January if need be.

Carlos will gain Spanish nationality from December.
